In C

In C is an iconic C20th work by Terry Riley.

Often cited as the first minimilist composition, In C consists of 53 short phrases that are performed in sequence by the musicians.  The phrases are repeated as desired and musicians can proceed from phrase to phrase at their own pace.  The whole ensemble is tied together with an 1/8th note pulse.

The Taborers In C project was kicked off at IPATF 2011 by Bill Tuck.

The aim is to work on the piece and bring it up to concert performance standard.

Bill has been working on this piece with a historic brass ensemble, and Stephen Rowley is working with bagpipers and gurdy players.    This offers the possibility of a combined performance.
