Have fun in historic Gloucester 20th to 22nd Sep 2024 at the International Pipe and Tabor Festival with Spanish guest artist Juanma Sánchez. Our main events will be based at or near the Folk in Gloucester ( a wonderful Tudor building near the Cathedral).
On 20th afternoon, assemble from 1pm, 2pm onwards our Symposium will be on the theme “Anniversaries and Recollections”, it’s the 100th Anniversary of Cecil Sharp’s death and the Travelling Morrice, other anniversaries too, and we can revel in various recollections of pipe and tabor. We are keen to include early photos of taborers and our taborer gatherings if you have any to share, please email Andy Richards at e-mail . There will be a session in the evening.
On 21st we will workshop, then process and perform around the historic centre with dancing including Taylor’s Morris (who dance Longborough) and potentially others. In the evening there will be a Concert at the Folk in Gloucester main building Celebrating Pipe and Tabor, with international artist Juanma Sanchez from Spain.
A Pipe and Tabor Beginners’ Workshop slot on 21st afternoon can be pre-booked by contacting us, Gillian will concentrate on teaching people the basics of technique and then send them away with a selection of tunes suitable for learners so they can work on them afterwards.
There’s more taboring fun on 22nd before fond farewells in the afternoon.
Workshops will include Juanma Sanchez teaching taborers a Pasacalles from his parents’ village, and Bill Tuck and Barbara Segal on El Gioioso – Rosti Boly: the dance and the music (15th century Italian).
